NCD Announces General Availability of ThinPATH Management Portal

Customers with ThinPATH Manager can transfer existing licenses free of charge to enable easy migration.

Portland, OR - September 5, 2002 - Network Computing Devices, Inc., ((NCD) (OTC: NCDI.OB)), a leading producer of thin client solutions, today announced the general availability of ThinPATH Management Portal, the latest dimension of its Thinfrastructure family of offerings, which was announced in July of this year. This innovative system supports PCs, ThinSTAR terminals, and a range of CE.NET products from NCD's alliance partner, Neoware.

Customers will benefit significantly from using a single tool to manage their entire network of thin clients and PCs. Access to the management console and distribution of code via the Internet provides enhanced ease of use and control.

NCD's new ThinPATH Management Portal complements the recently released NCD ThinPATH PC software, to provide a comprehensive solution that manages PCs as thin clients. Now systems administrators can group, control, configure, and personalize PCs to suit their unique environments.

NCD ThinPATH Management Portal supports additional centralized desktop management tasks. The software defines, creates, and manages groups of desktops or individual desktops with unique software installation, connection information and security settings for devices through an intuitive administration interface. Once defined, this information is transferred over the network to the targeted desktops using web services technologies based on XML. Companies can segment their desktops into the appropriate functional groups for their enterprises, and can tailor specific servers to allow or restrict desktop access.

"In order to serve our current customers well, we are providing an automatic migration path to the portal environment. Customers with existing ThinPATH Manager licenses will be able to use those license keys to activate the Portal functionality," explained Frank Bernard, director of NCD North America sales. "This will allow them to easily expand their thin client environment and continue harnessing the power of server-based computing. Companies will discover that this approach meets their IT needs better and more cost-effectively than investing in comprehensive PC management tools that require dedicated developer and support staff, plus additional prerequisite systems that may be difficult to install in a distributed system. This is the first step in a whole new way to manage thin client environments using web services technologies, and NCD is very pleased to be making this important new solution available today."

A single server is capable of automating the management of hundreds of desktops simultaneously across a network. By achieving desktop management with a minimal server load, customers can reduce the number of management servers needed to configure their installed desktops. NCD ThinPATH Management Portal's intuitive web-based management interface simplifies administration and enables remote management over the distributed network.

Pricing and Availability:

The ThinPATH Management Portal can be downloaded via NCD's website (www.ncd.com). Access licenses are priced at $59 per managed desktop. To purchase, customers can contact their authorized NCD reseller. Customers with existing NCD ThinPATH Manager licenses can use their license keys to convert to the NCD ThinPATH Management Portal free of charge.
